Band Conductor - Jason Le Roux
Growing up in Peel region, Jason began his musical training at a very early age, learning piano and voice while in elementary school. He began to play the French horn in grade 7 and performed in the Peel Region Intermediate Honour Band as a grade 8 student. While attending Brampton Centennial High School, Jason performed in every group he could - concert and stage bands, choirs, and pit orchestras, culminating in being the principal French horn of the Mississauga Youth Orchestra.
Jason attended the University of Toronto, graduating in 1995 with a Bachelor of Music and in 1996 with a Bachelor of Education. While at U of T, Jason studied horn with Harcus Hennigar of the TSO, and performed in the Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra. He studied band literature, techniques and conducting with Stephen Chenette, Cameron Walters and Jeff Reynolds. He also had the opportunity to perform with the jazz ensemble under the baton of Phil Nimmons and was a founding member of the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra.
Upon graduating from university, Jason moved to New Zealand for six years, teaching music at Taumarunui High School. He performed for the Taumaunui Choral and Operatic Society - both on stage and in the pit, and was a guest musician with the New Plymouth and Tauranga Symphony Orchestras.
Jason returned to Canada in 2002 and began teaching grade 7 at Blyth Public School. He was the principal French horn of the Bayfield Winds, and has been the solo Eb horn player for the Kincardine Brass Band since 2005. He currently teaches at East Wawanosh Public School in Belgrave and lives in Blyth with his partner Megan and three children, Patrick, Genevieve, and Aria.
